Bridget and Nick’s Makena Cove elopement was intimate, warm, and full of life. Tucked along Maui’s south shore, Makena Cove gave them a smaller, more secluded setting to exchange their vows with just their officiant and a ukulele player there with them.

There was something about the simplicity of the day that made it feel incredibly personal. There wasn’t a large crowd or a packed timeline. It was simply the two of them getting married in one of the most beautiful little corners of Maui.

An Intimate Ceremony at Makena Cove

Their elopement was coordinated by Happily Maui’d, allowing the day to stay simple and focused on the two of them.

One of my favorite details from their ceremony was the flower circle created for them along the beach. Surrounded by tropical flowers with the ocean just behind them, Bridget and Nick stood together inside the circle as they exchanged their vows.

With only their officiant and ukulele player there, the ceremony felt quiet and personal. Makena Cove worked especially well for that kind of celebration because of its smaller size and more secluded feeling.

Rather than feeling like they were getting married on a huge open beach, the cove created its own little space around them.

Golden Hour Portraits in Makena

After the ceremony, we spent most of our time creating portraits together.

Bridget and Nick were comfortable in front of the camera from the beginning. They were relaxed, enjoying themselves, and didn’t need much time before everything started to feel natural.

Makena Cove also gave us a lot of variety within a relatively small area. We photographed along the sand, near the lava rock and palms, and with the ocean stretching behind them.

As the sun moved lower, the entire feeling of the beach began to change.

The bright tropical scenery softened into beautiful golden light, giving us a completely different atmosphere for their later portraits. It allowed their gallery to move naturally from the color and energy of their ceremony into something warmer and more romantic as the evening went on.

A Makena Cove Elopement in Maui

What I love about elopements like Bridget and Nick’s is that they show how meaningful a wedding can feel without needing to be large or elaborate.

Their day was simple: a secluded beach, a circle of flowers, live ukulele, their vows, and an evening spent together along the Maui coastline.

And that simplicity gave us room to focus on what was actually happening.

For Bridget and Nick, Makena Cove wasn’t just a beautiful backdrop. The smaller setting complemented the kind of wedding they wanted—quiet, romantic, and centered completely around the two of them.

By the end of the evening, we had moved from their intimate ceremony into warm sunset portraits along the beach, creating photographs that captured not only what their elopement looked like, but the atmosphere surrounding it.
