Layn and Dylan’s Maluaka Beach elopement was an intimate afternoon on Maui surrounded by the people closest to them, followed by portraits along the coastline as the sun began to set.
Their ceremony took place at Maluaka Beach in South Maui, overlooking the ocean with family and friends gathered around them. It was simple, personal, and full of emotion—the kind of ceremony where the people and the moments happening between them become more important than everything surrounding it.
After the ceremony, we headed to nearby White Rock Beach for their couple portraits. Moving to a second location gave us a completely different feel while still keeping the ocean at the center of the photographs.
White Rock gave us black lava rock, open stretches of sand, greenery, and warm afternoon light. We started around the rocky shoreline before eventually making our way down to the water as the sun moved closer to the horizon.
What stood out most about photographing Layn and Dylan was how much fun they had together. There were moments for more intentional portraits, but some of my favorites came from simply letting them move, laugh, run along the water, and be close to one another.
As the light became softer, the photographs became more intimate too. We mixed movement with quieter portraits and small details, allowing the session to feel less like a series of poses and more like time for the two of them to enjoy being newly married.
That balance is a big part of how I approach a Maui elopement. I want to create photographs that feel intentional and refined while still leaving room for the unexpected moments—the wind, laughter, movement, and everything that naturally happens between two people.
For couples considering an elopement in South Maui, combining a Maluaka Beach ceremony with portraits at White Rock Beach can create two distinct settings within the same wedding story—from an intimate oceanfront ceremony to relaxed sunset portraits along the Maui coastline.
